“Tell Your Story”

“Why would anyone want to read a blog written by me?” “I should have researched how to write a blog long before I just jumped in and published one!” (4 so far)”What do I really have to offer?”

Those are the thoughts that were running through my mind recently after finding
an amazing and very successful blog written by an over 60 woman. And with a super catchy blog name.

I only read one of her blogs so far, and looked at her other blog titles. But I have to say that while very inspiring and full of useful information, I found myself playing the comparison game in my mind, and asking questions like the ones above.

And I know how unhealthy it is to compare yourself to others, especially on social media. When I catch myself doing just that, I have to stop and speak truth to my sometimes unconfident self. And remember to ask God to help me see myself as he does.

How precious are your thoughts about me, Oh God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! (Psalm 139:17-18)

For we are God’s masterpiece. (Ephesians 2:10)

I definitely ask the Spirit to help me when I write. I don’t want to share too much, or cause either of my exes any pain. But as my daughter reminded me recently, “As long as what you’re sharing is true. And it’s shared with good intention of helping others who read it, then don’t feel bad sharing your story.”

That will always be my goal here, to share what is true in my life and with good intentions.

** My daughter Jodan (@×ojgo on IG) is one very wise young woman, and I continue to learn from her. Check out one of my favorite episodes of her podcast “Confidently Uncomfortable” (from Dec. 12, 2023)

When God put the words “Tell your story” and “I’ll give you courage” in my mind three years ago and then again this year, I had no idea how I was supposed to do that. All I knew was that I am not someone who is comfortable speaking in front of large groups of people. So I asked God to show me how to do this.

I love to write, and have written in journals for most of my life. I enjoyed writing for my high school newspaper. And I earned a degree in Journalism & Advertising at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. But I’ve never written professionally, instead choosing to get into radio + television advertising sales.

So that may be one of the reasons I decided to create this blog website and get back to writing. And the fact that I “just happened” to come across the words “Tell your story” – written on a piece of paper stuck in one of my journals from 3 years ago, definitely added to that decision.

It looks like I’ll be learning as I go – how to do this thing called blogging! So don’t be surprised if I make mistakes ya’ll.

One of the hardest things for me, is staying on track when writing, or doing anything. (There’s definitely some ADD going on with me. Ya think? Ha!)

I’m already learning that it can be hard to know what to even write about. What would possibly be helpful for a 50+ woman who finds herself going through an unwanted separation or divorce?

And who am I to even give someone else advice? So instead of giving advice so to speak, I’m just going to share things at “My Presence Journey” that could be helpful to someone. As well as sharing stories about inspiring people that I meet and behind-the-scenes of life as a jewelry artist.

With humor as well, because we all need to laugh along the way!

    1. Thank you! You’ve gone through so much yourself, and I know the only reason you have that kind of strength is from your faith! 🙏❤️
